Basic and applied research in the field of agriculture, forestry and environmental protection in the Mediterranean region aims to increase the efficiency and competitiveness of agricultural production, maintain the sustainability of agricultural and forest ecosystems and biodiversity, preserve the quality of the environment and protect and manage soil and water. In order for this research to reach a high scientific level, it must be approached from a comprehensive, interdisciplinary perspective, and a modern scientific infrastructure must be guaranteed and invested in young researchers. This project therefore proposes the acquisition of new equipment for use in analytical laboratories and for carrying out experiments in the biotechnical field, as well as investment in the education of doctoral students. This will enable better implementation of the research work described. New knowledge gained during the implementation of the project will be published in excellent scientific journals. In addition, the ability of the research group to carry out science-based commercial activities will be improved, which will increase the applicability of the research results. All this will have a positive impact on a higher quality infrastructure for research work, the performance of innovative experiments and more sophisticated analyses and ultimately on higher scientific productivity and visibility in the scientific world as well as on the applicability of the results.
